Just in time for a romantic date night on Valentine’s Day or for a fun day trip for the Family Day long weekend, the Sea to Sky Gondola has just announced that it will be officially re-opening on Friday, February 14, 2020.

The re-opening date comes after months of being shut down because of a confirmed act of vandalism that forced the closure of the incredibly popular tourist attraction on the Sea to Sky highway.

In the coming weeks, thirty brand new cabins will be re-installed on the main cable that recently arrived from Switzerland.

The re-opening comes just in time for the Family Day Long Weekend and the gondola attraction will be welcoming guests back with 50% off lift tickets all weekend long in celebration of the love and support received from the community during the closure.

The journey to the re-opening took six months and four days after a criminal act of vandalism forced the closure on August 10, 2019.

The Squamish RCMP have confirmed that “the main cable was cut and that there are no other natural or mechanical reasons for the cable to have failed.” Luckily, nobody was hurt after this major act of vandalism caused the indefinite closure of the attraction.

“We want our guests to know they can travel to the summit on the Sea to Sky Gondola with complete confidence,” says Kirby Brown, Sea to Sky Gondola General Manager. “Our protocols would never allow the line to run if there was any damage to the cable and the security measures installed since the incident will ensure the gondola is secure and protected from any other criminal activity.”

The Sea to Sky Gondola is located just2 kilometres south of Squamish, directly on the Sea to Sky Highway/Highway 99. (Google Maps) It takes about an hour to reach the gondola by car from Downtown Vancouver.

At the top of the Sea to Sky Gondola, you’ll find some spectacular views, family-friendly attractions, and snowshoe trails. The attraction is open daily from 10 am to 4pm and there is a shuttle available from Vancouver.

If you want to check out the Sea to Sky Gondola before February 14, 2020, the Basecamp Cafe, Guest Services and Basecamp Gift Shop are still open.
