Whether we’re single, long-term partnered-up, or something in between, our thoughts often turn to love and romance at this time of year, thanks to a certain inescapable occasion (no, not our RRSP tax return deadline).

With that in mind, here are some Feb. 14-related events that will put the laughs back in this anxiety-inducing occasion.

Romance Week at the Improv Centre (Feb. 5-15, Improv Centre, 1502 Duranleau St.)—Vancouver TheatreSports celebrates love and romance with Romance Week. Programming includes The Love of Your Life – An Improvised True Romance, which premiered to packed houses at the 2019 Vancouver Fringe Festival where it played to packed houses; Love Matches – A Valentine’s Day All-Out Love Battle, featuring “an all-out love battle” between improv couples; OK Tinder – Swipe Right Comedy, a no-holds-barred look at Vancouver’s dating scene; Frisky Friday, which features an all-star cast of VTS ensemble members exploring the funny side of kink and based on audience suggestions; The Late Show, which features edgy, uncensored, improv comedy; and Date Night Improv Workshop For Couples, a special two-hour improv class for couples only on February 14. (Tickets: starting at $10.75 at vtsl.com)

Story Story Lie: Tinder Tales (Feb. 5 at the Rio Theatre, 1660 E. Broadway St., 7 p.m.)—Vancouver’s Story Story Lie and Toronto’s Tinder Tales team up to present a special storytelling event. Contestants tell stories of online dating experiences and it’s up to the audience to figure out who’s lying. This edition features David C Jones (City of Vancouver Award of Excellence), Kwasi Thomas (Leo Award Nominee), and Rachel Victoria (car karaoke superstar), and more. Tinder Tales has been selling out across Canada, including sold-out shows here in Vancouver.  (Tickets: $15 at storystorylie.com)

Let’s Make a Date (Feb. 12 at 8 p.m. at the Rio)—Local comic Patrick Maliha hosts this live dating game show. Besides hosting contestants live on stage, Maliha and his team will also create opportunities for audience members to mix and mingle with Speed Dating games and more. (Tickets: $12 at riotheatretickets.ca)
