Put on your finest fascinator or grab your nicest ascot and hit the race track for a sunny day at the races at the thirteenth annual The Cup (formerly Deighton Cup) summer event taking place at Hastings Racecourse on July 22.
Self-described as “the most stylish event of the summer,” The Cup is considered to be a staple of Vancouver’s social calendar. It usually offers up an impressive array of fashionable entertainment to complement the horse racing activities at the track all day long, starting at noon.
Live Music
This year, the festivities are anchored by live performances from the headlining genre-bending rapper Bryce Vine and strong music vibes from popular Dutch DJ and electronic music artist Sam Feldt. Local Spanish-born nightclub DJ Johnny Jover will also be on hand spinning tracks.
Felt’s biggest chart-topping songs include “Drew Barrymore,” “La La Land,” and “I’m Not Alright,” while Vine was named one of the world’s top 100 DJs by DJ Mag thanks to hits like “Post Malone” and his version of Robin’s “Show Me Love.” Both platinum-selling artists promise to keep the crowd going throughout the day.
Food & Drink
The Cup is looking to elevate its culinary offerings this year by inviting some of Vancouver’s top chefs to prepare one-of-a-kind meals (only available by pre-order), including enticing options like a paprika, thyme, and lemon marinated grilled chicken breast and black truffle and foie burger. As always, the event’s bartenders will serve up their best takes on classic derby cocktails like the mint julep.
Other pop-up food vendors include tacos from the Pawn Shop, Lee’s Donuts, Risotto Party, burgers from Hundy, Greek cuisine from Loula’s, fresh oysters from Wandering Mollusk, Spanish tapas from Arc Iberico Imports, Salty’s Lobster Shack, Lebanese food from Nuba, and dessert from Uno Gelato.
Best Dressed
One of the day’s highlights is always the best dressed competition, where attendees go all out to win the coveted award and bragging rights. The Cup has partnered with Orbiiit to give away the top prize of $5000 to one lucky guest for its annual Style Stakes competition on the main stage. As you can tell, they take their fashion very seriously.
Presented by Parade Agency and The Social Concierge, The Cup is an ideal setting for large groups to spend a Saturday afternoon taking in horse races dressed to the nines while enjoying some great style, live music, fine foods, and craft cocktails.
Different ticketing options are available, from reserved suites to boxes, chalets (up to 30 people), clubs (up to 150), or regular festival passes. To purchase tickets or learn more about the event, visit The Cup’s website.
