Vortex – the first-ever full-scale artistic imagining of the Pacific Trash Vortex or Great Pacific Garbage Patch – opens May 18, 2018 at the Vancouver Aquarium®, an Ocean Wise® initiative.
Vortex is an exploration of the escalating global ocean plastic pollution crisis and the evolving human relationship with this ubiquitous material in an emotive, provocative, and inspirational way.
This summer, tour the city by hopping aboard an electrically powered 12-passenger boat! This unique and intimate Electric Harbour Tour will give passengers spectacular views of Vancouver’s Coal Harbour, Stanley Park and Canada Place. The tour experience will begin in May with two boats: Elektra One and Elektra Two.
Gather in Stanley Park on Saturday, April 21 to celebrate the ecology of Vancouver’s beloved park and the 30th birthday the Stanley Park Ecology Society (SPES). Everyone is invited to join hands-on ecological activities and enjoy some birthday cake!

Internationally-renowned author, artist, and designer Douglas Coupland is collaborating with Ocean Wise® to highlight an escalating global conservation crisis – ocean plastic pollution – through a new major sculpture exhibition that will be unveiled at Vancouver Aquarium on May 18, 2018. This is a first for both the artist and the organization. The year-long installation, titled Vortex, will immerse visitors in a contemplative, emotive, and transformative experience.
On March 14th, notable Vancouver buildings and landmarks will glow blue in support of protecting our oceans, which is being showcased at GLOBE Forum 2018 (March 14-16) – North America’s largest and longest-running Leadership Summit on Sustainable Business.
