Spring and fall are my favourite seasons in Vancouver since I love the vibrancy of the natural colours from the changing environment. I’ve been waiting (not too patiently) for the explosion of cherry blossoms and, finally, was rewarded this month.

In this Instagram age, the first thing I want to do is reach for my camera or my cell phone, but I often find I’m not doing enough justice to the blossomy scene. If you’re like me, Vancouver Photowalks has a roaming cherry blossom workshop that just might be the thing for you!

Top 5 Event Highlights Scheduled for the 2017 Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival

After this dark, wet and unexpectedly snowy winter, cherry blossoms are one of the first cheerful signs of the fast approaching spring season. Unlike last year’s early bloom, the stars of the 2017 Cherry Blossom Festival should be arriving on time at the beginning of April.

Vancouver’s signature springtime event wakes the city up from winter hibernation with an explosion of around 41,000 blossoming cherry trees around the city. April marks the month of the blossom and will features over 20 public, mostly free, arts and cultural community events. So stuff your winter coat into the back of the closet and get out your camera because the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival is here again!

While there are several events to choose from (check out the full list on the VCBF website), below is a list of a few of the highlight events for this year’s cherry blossom festival.

5 Can’t-Miss Events at the 2016 Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival

Days are getting longer. Rains are giving way to blue skies. On city streets, pink and white buds are starting to appear on branches that have been bare all winter.

All of which can only mean one thing: the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival is right around the corner. Each spring, some 40,000 ornamental cherry trees planted along the streets of Vancouver burst into vivid colour. This year, the seasonal spectacle is being commemorated with more than three weeks of cherry-themed concerts, fairs, bike rides and even barges, March 24-April 17.

Here’s a look at 5 can’t-miss events for the 2016 Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival:

Get down at the Cherry Jam Downtown Concert: The festival kicks off with a free lunchtime concert in the heart of downtown at the Burrard SkyTrain station. Find a spot under the blossoms and watch as an international lineup offers an ode to the season. Performers include the taiko drumming troupe Vancouver Okinawa Taiko, as well as the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra String Quartet and the Vancouver Chinese Music Ensemble. Searching for Spring in Vancouver

They say patience is a virtue. It may be a virtue, but it is definitely not one of my strong suits. Like many Vancouverites, I am running out of patience waiting for winter to end. In anticipation of the clocks “springing forward” this month and the arrival of Daylight Savings Time, it seemed prudent to venture out to Queen Elizabeth Park and search for spring. Much has been written in the news these past days of an early spring. Naturally, I thought I would investigate for myself and Vancouver’s iconic Queen Elizabeth Park seemed a logical place to start.
