latte-art-heartWhen it rains, it pours—but here in Vancouver, it pours intricate Instagram-worthy latte art. And on Thursday, April 28th at 5:30pm, Espressotec Sales & Services will be positively storming as the city’s top baristas compete for the title of Throwdown Champion.

“We’ve got a lot of talent on the coffee scene here in Vancouver,” says Espressotec owner Reg James. “It’s about time we show it off with a little friendly competition, like they do in the States. We want to engage our coffee community and celebrate our local talent.”

Thirsty for Beer Wars: Craft Beer Industry Barons Duke It Out For DTES Charity, April 17

On April 17 the city’s beer masters put down the pints and put ‘em up in a battle of fists, fighting (literally) to raise funds for a local not-for-profit.

In this spinoff of their popular Aprons for Gloves fundraiser, event organizers corralled the city’s craft beer industry workers to volunteer their participation in a boxing tournament designed to profit one of Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside community fixtures, the Eastside Boxing Club. In days mostly gone by, the record store was a world revolving on its own: secrets were swapped about samples, album drops anticipated by faithful fans who stood by with sweaty bills always ready in their palms, hours upon hours were spent flipping fingers over the tops of record covers, digging through crates like they contained the Holy Grail – sometimes, they did.
