Then you may be in for a treat. An ultra-rare whisky is coming up for sale in Vancouver and – at around $1,000 or so a sip – it’s bound to be something special.

Scotland’s esteemed Balvenie distillery is shipping just one bottle of a very special whisky to Vancouver this month. Balvenie Fifty was first put into cask back in 1963. All told, only 131 bottles were ever produced. And, according to whisky aficionados, the taste is unmistakeable: fragrant, floral and boasting hints of honey.  Continue reading:

Do you enjoy an occasional single malt? Then this is the event for you.

Hopscotch – the festival devoted entirely to whisky, with some beer and other spirits thrown in – returns to Vancouver, Nov. 17-Nov. 23.  Now in its 19th year, the festival has expanded from a simple tasting event to an entire week of whisky-paired dinners, master classes, cigar smokes, music parties and more.

The main event is the aptly named Grand Tasting Hall, Nov. 21-Nov. 22, in the cavernous PNE Forum. Continue reading:

Attention Johnnie Walker Fans: $2000 whisky coming to Vancouver

Connoisseurs of fine scotch in Vancouver (with deep pockets) are in for a treat.

Legendary distiller Johnnie Walker has just announced the release of a rare scotch whisky in Vancouver and across Canada.  And this one goes way beyond the familiar Red, Black and even Blue labels.

Johnnie Walker Odyssey consists of three rare single malts blended together in accordance with hand-written notes from Sir Alexander Walker (Johnnie’s grandson), then aged in European oak casks. The result: a 750-ml bottle that retails for $2000, or roughly $80 a shot.

The Hopscotch Festival is back and bigger than ever this year. Last year, the whisky, beer, and spirits festival had the distinction of being named 1 of the 10 best drinking festivals in the world by MSN Travel UK. This year, the Hopscotch Festival is ready to make it the best one yet. The festival is the largest combined whisky and beer festival in Canada and features tastings, satellite dinners, and master classes. The Hopscotch Festival takes place this year from November 11th-17th.

Sexy and sophisticated, wine has long been feted in festivals and tastings.  Meanwhile, spirits have been consigned to the shadows – left to be sipped at home and in dark bars.

No longer.  Scotch and whisky, as well as premium beer, take the spotlight during Vancouver’s weeklong Hopscotch Festival, from Nov. 14-20.  More than 250 premium products will be showcased by 60 distributors in the largest festival of its kind on the West Coast.
