It’s Vancouver International Film Festival opening weekend! The city will be immersed by all things film – from indie and art house to documentary, comedy, mainstream and other forms of visual storytelling on the screen as well as talks and masterclasses. There’s also a little bit of theatre, music, dance, and sea otter appreciation going on.
This weekend you can still catch Fringe Festival performances around Granville Island, there’s local music throughout the city as part of the Westward Music Festival and the Accordion Noir Festival, and don’t forget to ready your bicycles and glowsticks for a night bike ride with thousands of bright cyclers.
Mongolian warrior princesses, drag shows, soccer, football, a celebration of the Philippines, a Latin American film festival, and a whole lot of music is happening this weekend!
There are two weekends left in August, so let’s keep this summer going! When you’re not catching some sun at one of our beaches, there’s a bird festival, a soccer game, concerts, and The Fair at the PNE is on with all the rides, games, concerts, weird food and barnyard animals. (There’s a few air-conditioned things to do too, if that’s your jam.)
This weekend Vancouver will be painted by the Mural Festival, have its heart opened by the Queer Film Festival, be strummed to by the Guitar Festival, and probably fall over laughing watching a bunch of corgis race. If you find yourself in the dark outdoors on Sunday, look up into the stars – the Perseids will be shooting across the skies in one of the brightest meteor showers of the year.
South Africa brings the fireworks, the Caribbean brings a carnival, teens bring Shakespeare, and Pride brings interactive art to Vancouver this weekend, along with a cat conference, a bunch of kink, some soccer and a bit of guided forest therapy.
Watch musical theatre under the starry night sky, live music on a sunny beachfront, Shakespeare in a tent, and symphony at sunset this weekend.
