Princess Leia, Captain Kirk and, uhm, Brenda Walsh will be among the guests at this year’s Vancouver Fan Expo. And for the first time, it will be the real – or at least, original – versions of Leia and Kirk, and not people in costumes. (We’re not sure if anyone’s turned up in the guise of Beverley Hills 90210’s Brenda Walsh, but probably.)

So William Shatner, Carrie Fisher and Shannen Doherty – those are three big names. But who else is coming to this year’s Fan Expo Vancouver? Well, plenty, as it turns out.

First day of spring sees furry mascots hugging to support the Food Bank!

On the first day of spring, cute, furry, and gregarious animals will be waking up from hibernation and giving out hugs to Vancouverites. Spring Advertising will be unleashing the animals/mascots at various locations across the city as part of Hugs for Hunger, a fundraiser to help the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society.

Public Invited to Attend Launch of Aerial Sculpture, Mar. 15

Join the crowd at the Vancouver Convention Centre grounds on Saturday March 15 to see the launch of Janet Echelman’s incredible aerial sculpture!

Suspended 745 feet across Vancouver’s waterfront, the sculpture will appear to float between a 24-story skyscraper and the Vancouver Convention Center, site of the TED2014 Conference. As the sun sets, Echelman will share details about the sculpture and the Autodesk technology that assisted her in its design, and Aaron Koblin, Google’s Creative Director, will demonstrate how the general public can use the browser on their mobile device to choreograph the lighting onto the sculpture.
