The Skookum Festival will be filling Stanley Park with music, art, and food, the Fringe Festival is bringing all kinds of quirky theatrics onto and around Granville Island, and there’s a huge Gran Fondo bike ride up the scenic Sea to Sky highway to Whistler.

This weekend, outdoor parties in Railtown and East Vancouver

Looking for a party this weekend—maybe something outside?

If so, you have a couple of different options: an electronica freakout, and an afternoon aimed at families.

On Sat., Aug. 25, the Monstercat Compound Block Party will fill the sky over Railtown with bouncy electro-dance tunes. And the next day, Aug. 26, the Vancouver East Cultural Centre hosts an outdoor/indoor party with Brasstronaut, Peach Pyramid and Mark Mills.

It’s a feline revolution: where to get your fill of cats in Vancouver this week

As you may (or may not) know, Vancouver’s first Meowfest is coming up this Sunday, July 29.

But you can celebrate what is turning into The Week of the Cat today by checking out a new  exhibit, Clowder (“a cluster of cats”), on now at the James Black Gallery, 114 E. 6th Ave.

The free art show, which runs until July 29 (from 12-5 p.m., with an opening reception July 26 from 7-10 p.m.), is aimed at bringing awareness to cat issues and raise money for CARES, a local cat shelter.

Things to Do in Vancouver This Weekend

Happy Canada Day long weekend! Paint yourself in red and white and celebrate in the streets with live music, a whole bunch of family-friendly activities and, of course, fireworks. And if that’s just a little too obvious for you, you can get in touch with nature (and check out some taxidermy) at the Museum of Vancouver, learn about asteroids at the Space Centre, or get fashionably punk-inspired seeing a Vivienne Westwood documentary.

Free concert alert! Dillon Francis in Vancouver this Friday (April 20)!

EDM sensation Dillon Francis headlines a free concert tomorrow (Friday) April 20 at Harbour Event Centre (760 Pacific Blvd). Others on the bill include Dzeko and Daijo.

The concert kicks off the Illumination concert series, a nation-wide series of free shows that will bring 20 artists to Canadian cities this summer.

It’s JUNO Week in Vancouver, so of course the streets and stages are filled with live music from award nominees and local musicians all weekend! In between the music there’s also an Easter train, a soccer game, and arts and crafts for the whole family in museums and galleries that will inspire budding scientists, artists, and historians.
