A festival that will illuminate the night with thousands of beautiful lanterns to help celebrate the Chinese New Year is coming to Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Gardens. The festival, known as Lanterns in the Garden is an annual event with themed lanterns, fun activities, and delicious food!

The memorable spectacle will take place over three weekends in February and March, starting on Friday, February 16, 2018. You’re invited to the garden to take a trip back in time to enjoy an authentic & traditional YUAN XIAO festival.

If you are not familiar with YUAN XIAO, the name comes from first month of the Chinese Lunar month (YUAN), and night (XIAO). During this time, families together go out holding lanterns and enjoy the moon. They also like to solve riddles, play with fire crackers and also eat YUAN XIAO (rice ball)—a traditional Chinese desert.

The Vancouver lantern festival marks the end of the New Year celebrations and also the first full moon day in the Lunar Calendar, which symbolizes the coming spring.

Prepare to be dazzled at the event, which will feature themed lanterns that are handmade by Chinese and local artists, as well as interactive activities including a photobooth, square dancing, DIY lantern making, and wish making crafts.

Last year, Lanterns in the Garden attracted more than 4,000 attendees and this year it will be even bigger! Tickets are currently on sale online and cost $15.00 for adults, $12.00 for children and seniors, and $45.00 for a family package.

Lanterns in the Garden is sure to be a feast for the senses and it is a unique experience not to be missed! The festival will run on Friday and Saturday nights from February 16, 2018 until March 4, 2018.
