Filming in Vancouver: Iko Uwais in Wu Assassins, Rachel Bilson in Take Two, The Order, and more

Indonesia’s Iko Uwais starred in The Raid: Redemption and The Raid 2.

This week’s roundup of what’s shooting in Vancouver is pretty much all about TV series in their first seasons.

Starting up is a new martial-arts series and a babysitter who is assigned a highly unusual charge. Finishing up is a cop comedy and a supernatural drama.

Here’s a quick rundown of what’s (and who’s) coming and going from Vancouver’s screen scene.

While the weather is heating up, a new Netflix martial arts drama series will bring some additional heat to the streets of Vancouver.

Wu Assassins will shoot 10 episodes of its first season here from August 8 to November 20.

Iko Uwais

Indonesian star Iko Uwais, who knows a thing or two about kicking ass, will take the lead as Kai Jin, an aspiring chef who teams up with a homicide detective in an attempt to take down an ancient triad in San Francisco’s Chinatown.

Not only does Uwais star in the series but he’s also the executive producer, lead martial arts choreographer, and stunt coordinator.

If you’re unfamiliar with his name, it’s one to get to know.

He rose to fame abroad with films like The Raid: Redemption and The Raid 2, and crossed over to Hollywood with Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the forthcoming Mile 22 (costarring Mark Wahlberg).

Byron Mann (Altered Carbon) has also been cast. The release date hasn’t been announced.

Another new series coming to town is Gabby Duran and the Unsittables. This production, which will shoot Season 1 from July 30 to August 7, is based upon the youth novel about a babysitter extraordinaire who is offered a top-secret assignment to babysit a high-profile alien girl.

The cast hasn’t been revealed yet so stay tuned for more details to come on this one.

Meanwhile, two TV series shooting their inaugural seasons are winding up.

Rachel Bilson

The comedy-drama police procedural Take Two started shooting Season 1 back on February 26 and finished up on July 14.

The series stars Rachel Bilson (who left the TV series Nashville after Season 5) as the former star of a police TV series who, after leaving rehab, teams up with a private investigator (Eddie Cibrian) to research a new acting role but winds up helping to solve crimes.

The cast also includes Xavier de Guzman, Aliyah O’Brien, and Alice Lee.

Season 1 premiered on June 21.

Meanwhile, Netflix’s The Order began filming Season 1 on April 18 and will call it a wrap after shooting 10 episodes by Friday (July 20).

Jake Manley

The series follows a college freshman named Jack Morton (Jake Manley) as he enlists in a clandestine society. After joining, he not only discovers an underground realm in which war has broken out between werewolves and the dark arts but he also uncovers some secrets about his own family.

The cast also includes Sarah Grey, Matt Frewer, Sam Trammell, and Max Martini. The release date has yet to be announced.

As we wait for these series to show up on home screens, there’ll be plenty more to cover of what’s shooting in Vancouver so be sure to check back in with us in the weeks to come.
