George Takei stars in The Terror: Infamy
As one show finishes up, another one starts.
That’s usually the norm in Vancouver’s screen scene and such is the case this week.
In fact, one horror TV series is calling it a wrap while another horror series gets started.
But where they differ is that one is set in a historical event while the other is set in a world of witchcraft and teen drama.
Speaking of adolescents, there’s forthcoming series that will shoot its inaugural season here for which there’s very little detail, with the exception of a casting call that is drawing praise from people with disabilities.

Derek Mio
First up, The Terror: Infamy completes filming 10 episodes of Season 2 today (May 13), having started back on January 14.
This horror-drama anthology series depicts a different historical event each season.
In Season 1, the series fictionalized the British Royal Navy and Captain Sir John Franklin’s doomed expedition to the Arctic in the 1840s in an attempt to find the Northwest Passage.
Naoko Mori
In the forthcoming season, the focus shifts to the Japanese American internment during the Second World War in which a menacing spectre follows the Japanese-American community from California to internment camps, as well as out to war in the Pacific.
Derek Mio plays the lead character of the son of Japanese immigrants who joins the U.S. Army.

The cast also includes George Takei, Kiki Sukezane, Naoko Mori, Shingo Usami, and more.

Takei, who experienced the internment as a child with his family, not only plays the character Yamato but also served as a consultant on the series.

On Twitter, Takei explained how his experiences influenced his dedication to this project.

And a release date has been announced: the series is set to premiere on AMC on August 12.
While that one wraps up, another hit horror-themed TV series is just getting going.
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (Netflix)
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina starts shooting 16 episodes for Season 2 on Friday (May 17) and will continue all the way until February 20, 2020.
This Netflix supernatural horror series, an adaptation of the Archie Comic book series of the same name, stars Kiernan Shipka as the lead character of Sabrina, who is part human and part witch.
Michelle Gomez
She juggles her dual nature, living in two worlds, one as a mortal teenager and the other rooted in her heritage from the coven Church of Night as she learns how to develop and hone her special witchcraft abilities to battle the forces of evil.
The cast includes Lucy Davis, Michelle Gomez, Ross Lynch, Jaz Sinclair, Chance Perdomo, Miranda Otto, Tati Gabrielle, and Richard Coyle.

Meanwhile, Season 1, which premiered on October 26 and concluded on April 5 with a season finale full of twists and turns, consisted of 20 episodes that were released in two parts.
There’s no word yet on the release date for Season 2 so stay tuned.
Tati Gabrielle
Much further down the road, a new series is coming to Vancouver to film.
The Healing Powers of Dude will shoot its first season from June 17 to August 9.
Details are almost non-existent on this one.
But in late January, Netflix announced a casting call for an English-speaking female wheelchair user (of any ethnicity) between the ages of 9 and 13 to costar in the show in the role of a tough student named Amara who befriends the anxious Noah.
The move to find authentic representation of the character by an actor with disability, rather than casting an able-bodied actor in the role, has been applauded by disability activists and advocates.
So it looks like it’s already off to a good start.
We’ll have to wait to see who is cast and who the production brings to town.
