Filming in Vancouver: The Flash, Batwoman, Loudermilk, and Sacred Lies

Ruby Rose stars in Batwoman, which begins shooting Season 1 this week.

This week, several TV series are getting back on set to start production in Vancouver on their latest season.

One includes a powerpacked show about a superhero who certainly knows a thing or two about being getting a move on.

Another is a comedy that revolves around a cynical recovering alcoholic who works as a substance-abuse counsellor.

Yet another series is about a teenager without hands who has escaped a cult whose leader has been killed.

And there’s a new series joining the Arrowverse gang.

For details about all of these shows, join us after the jump for an overview of what’s going on this week in Vancouver’s screen scene.

The Flash

In the blink of an eye, The Flash starts in on Season 6 today (July 2) and will keep things running until April 6, 2020.

(Is it just me or does 2020 sound like the far-flung future? Maybe I’ve just watched too many old-school sci-fi flicks…)

This series follows everyone’s favourite superhero speedster, played by Grant Gustin, and it looks like the upcoming season will involve the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover storyline.

Grant Gustin

Fans, take note: there’ll also be some upcoming changes among the cast members in this season.

Unfortunately, it was announced earlier this year that actor Carlos Valdes, who portrays the brainy Cisco Ramon/Vibe, will be departing from the show.

But there’s a new male villain on the horizon who will assume a position of a major antagonist in this season. Ooers!

Candice Patton

The cast includes Candice Patton, Tom Cavanaugh, Danielle Panabaker, Jesse L. Martin, and more.

However, there’s a bit of a wait before you can check things out with your own two eyes. Season 6 of The Flash is slated to premiere on October 8.

Ron Livingston

But that’s not the only TV series getting back on set today.

Loudermilk is also getting underway on shooting 10 episodes for its third season today (July 2) and will keep going until August 20.

This sitcom about a recovering alcoholic named Sam Loudermilk, portrayed by Ron Livingston (A Million Little Things), who is a substance-abuse counsellor with an attitude.

Will Sasso

In Season 2, after a relapse in New Orleans and a fight with his best friend (played by Will Sasso, who hails from Vancouver), Sam returned to Seattle.

Once back there, he embarked upon a new relationship as he tried to pull his life together.

Anja Savcic

The cast also includes Anja Savcic, Timothy Webber, Brian Regan, Jackie Flynn, Ricky Blitt, Viv Leacock, Sam Bob, and Tyler Layton-Olson.

The Season 2 finale aired on December 19.

Although the premiere date of Season 3 hasn’t been announced yet, the previous two seasons premiered in mid-October so the same time frame is likely.

Elena Kampouris

Then on Wednesday (July 3), Facebook Watch’s Sacred Lies begins production on Season 2. Filming will continue through the summer months until September 13.

This drama series is based upon the book The Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly by author Stephanie Oakes.

The synopsis is quite the head-spinner: a female teenager, played by Elena Kampouris (American Odyssey), manages to break free after 12 years of being with a cult—but is missing both hands.

After emerging from the wilderness in Montana, she winds up being put in juvenile detention as she’s suspected of knowing who killed her cult leader.

Ryan Robbins

The cast includes Kevin Carroll, Kiana Madeira, Toby Huss, and Vancouver’s Ryan Robbins.

Ruby Rose

Meanwhile in the wake of its pilot being greenlit, Batwoman starts shooting its first season on Thursday (July 4) and will continue until December 2

Directed by Marcos Siega (God Friended Me), the series will be set within the Arrowverse as well as within a Gotham City that Batman has abandoned.

As the outspoken and openly lesbian cousin of Bruce Wayne, Kate Kane, played by Ruby Rose (John Wick: Chapter 2), is also a costumed vigilante with street-fighting skills whose passion for social justice fuels her effort to protect Gotham City from a rising wave of crime.

Meagan Tandy

The cast includes Meagan Tandy, Camrus Johnson, Nicole Kang, Rachel Skarsten, Dougray Scott, and Elizabeth Anweis.

Season 1 is scheduled to premiere on October 6.

Nicole Kang

Needless to say, it appears there’s lots to look forward on screen this autumn, not to mention stars to try and spot on the streets of Vancouver over the summer.

We’ll have more on what’s filming in Vancouver so until our next installation, have fun spotting Vancouver on a screen near you.
