Dances for a Small Stage’s Summer Series features contemporary dance from local artists in downtown Vancouver’s Bute Robson Plaza (800 Bute) every Saturday in the month of July beginning at 4 p.m.

The first in the series was last weekend, but there are three Saturdays left this month—and plenty of dance excitement! See below for more about the Summer Series.

Dances for a Small Stage showcases innovative dance work from local dancers. Many of the performers at Summer Series have worked with Small Stage before, and are presenting a variety of different dance pieces rooted in contemporary styles.

On July 13 (tomorrow), performers include:

Alexandra Clancy—Clancy has trained in various dance styles. She was a member of Vancouver Tap Dance Society’s youth company and co-founded Third Party, a tap dance company that aims to show that tap can be versatile and current while respecting its history and music.

Sarah Formosa—Formosa, who has studied at the prestigious Alonzo King LINES Ballet Training Program in San Francisco, works in all styles of dance as a freelance contemporary artist and on camera in film and television. She has worked professionally with a number of dancers and companies and is a choreographer-in-residence with Dances for a Small Stage. Her screen work includes credits with Disney (Descendants 3), Nickelodeon (Blurt), Lifetime (Death of a Cheerleader) and The ABC Network (Once Upon a Time).

Sarah Formosa performs this Saturday (July 13) with Small Stage’s Summer Series.

Olivia Shaffer—A choreographer, performing artist, and movement teacher, Shaffer is interested in “creating living, embodied work, rooted in structured improvisations,” according to her website, Oliviashaffer.com.

Other dancers on July 13 include Devan Genereux, Jeffery Dawson, Ana Sosa, Mike WT Allen, and The Bandits (Rebekah Gill, Payton Miller, Mckenzie Witter, Jaden Turner, Dylan MacPhail, Brooke Doble). Many of these same dancers will also perform on July 20 and 27, with some substitutions and additions. (For a full lineup and more info, visit smallstage.ca)
