Filming in Vancouver: The Order, One of Us is Lying, Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting

Jake Manley stars in The Order.

As the days grow darker, so do some of the productions filming in Vancouver.

This week’s roundup of what’s coming and going from the local screen scene spans horror, mystery, fantasy, and the supernatural—with a little comedy in the mix to prove that we’re not without a sense of humour.

There’s a movie about a babysitter out to fight monsters to get her stolen charge back, and a college student who becomes educated in the magical dark arts to fight werewolves.

Meanwhile, a potential new TV series will be a mystery about what happens when several high-school students enter detention but one does not survive.

For more on all this intrigue and creepiness, see you after the jump.

Marianly Tejada

First up, the TV pilot for One of Us is Lying starts shooting today (November 4) and will continue until November 22.

This mystery drama, based upon the young-adult novel by Karen M. McManus, will premiere on NBC Universal’s forthcoming streaming service Peacock.

Chibuikem Uche

It follows what happens when five students enter detention—but when it’s over, only four remain alive.

The cast includes Marianly Tejada, Cooper van Grootel, Annalisa Cochrane, Chibuikem Uche, Jessica McLeod, Barrett Carnahan, and Melissa Collazo.

Stay tuned to see if this pilot gets greenlit to become a series—and a regular production here in Vancouver.

The Order

Later on in the week, The Order will complete filming 10 episodes for Season 2 on Thursday (November 7), which began back on August 6.

This supernatural horror TV series follows university student Jack Morton who joins the Hermetic Order of the Blue Rose, a secret society that practices magic. He discovers dark secrets about his family and a hidden war between werewolves and the magical arts.

Sarah Grey

Jake Manley portrays Jack Morton and the cast includes Sarah Grey, Matt Frewer, Sam Trammell, and Max Martini.

Season 1 was released on Netflix in March. The release date for the second season is yet to be announced.

Tamara Smart

After that, A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting finishes up shooting on Friday (November 8). This Netflix movie began filming back on August 29.

(Not to be confused with the TV series The Baby-Sitters Club, which recently completed shooting Season 1.)

Based on the first book in a series by Joe Ballarini, this comedy-fantasy follows first-time babysitter Kelly Ferguson, who is forced to take action after the Boogeyman steals her charge. She then discovers a secret society of babysitters who fight to protect children from a world of monsters.

It’s directed by UBC film professor Rachel Talalay (Riverdale).

Tom Felton

The cast will be lead by Tamara Smart and Oona Laurence, and will include Tom Felton, Indya Moore, Alessio Scalzotto, Ian Ho, and more.

But the premiere date hasn’t been announced yet so we’ll have to wait to see when this one gets released.

And while we patiently await all of these shows to hit screens near us sometime in the near future, we’ll have more to cover on what’s shooting in the city these days so visit us again soon for more on what’s filming in Vancouver.
