One of my personal goals for 2020 is to expose my tastebuds to more vegetarian and plant-based meals when I’m out and about. Lucky for me (and you!), there’s no shortage of vegetarian restaurant options in Vancouver. To keep things streamlined, today’s focus will be all about brunch—(almost) everyone’s favourite meal, and certainly mine.

Here are five restaurants serving up scrumptious vegetarian brunch in Vancouver. You won’t miss the bacon—I promise.

(I particularly enjoy that particular brunch staple, so you know I mean business with that promise. If I don’t miss it, you won’t either.)

The Acorn

The Acorn is an award-winning, vegetable-forward restaurant and bar located at the heart of Vancouver’s Main Street neighbourhood. They serve creative meals made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients, all carefully crafted to cater to all foodies—vegan, gluten-free and meat-eaters will all find at least three dishes that tickle their fancy (I promise). Try the Okonomiyaki and the Southern-style Mushroom and Waffle.

The Naam

As Vancouver’s oldest natural foods restaurant, The Naam Restaurant consistently wins city-best awards and offers the unique feature of 24/7 service of their vegetarian and vegan menu options. The Naam Special Breakfast is incredibly popular and, personally, I’m ready to go back for the Breakfast Dragon Bowl.

TurF Living

The TurF Living menu philosophy is simple: food keeps humans alive, but good food makes them feel alive. At TurF, “good” means whole, humane and non-processed foods with no refined sugar. And that makes for a wholesome and delicious post-workout brunch at the popular studio/shop/eatery. Menu highlights include the Mushroom Ricotta Toast and the Morning Greens.

Heirloom

Located in a beautiful heritage building in trendy South Granville, Heirloom offer socially conscious vegan and vegetarian fare. Brunch menu standouts are the Mushroom Hash and Vegan Buttermilk Pancakes. And for all my late weekend risers, Heirloom serves their veg-forward brunch until 4pm at their Granville & 12th and Ambleside (West Van) locations.

Nuba

I am not afraid to show some bias and tell you that Nuba is one of my favourite overall restaurants in city. With several locations in unique venues around the city, Nuba is serving hearty and healthy Lebanese food that will fill you up. Among the delicious brunch offerings are the Vegan Avocado and Beet Tartine (a nice twist on millennial favourite avocado toast) and the Brunch Sharing Platter (perfect to fuel up for a day of exploring or for the morning after a night on the town).
