You can’t keep a good game show down — the return of Graham Clark’s Quiz Show

Graham Clark brings back The Quiz Show from “game-show hiatus.”

Graham Clark loves game shows. And so the Vancouver comedian is eager to once again present The Quiz Show, a live hybrid of American game show and British panel show.

Clark debuted in 2016 at the now sadly defunct Main Street gallery Hot Art Wet City. Originally a spoof on segments from game shows past, The Quiz Show grew to incorporate all original segments. Local comedians are the contestants, and do their best to make audience members laugh – and win prizes, of course. On Sept. 9, he’ll resurrect the show at the Fox Cabaret (2321 Main St.).

Basia Bulat shares her secrets of the city!

Basia Bulat plays the Fox Cabaret Aug. 12.

Basia Bulat is no stranger to these parts. So we thought we’d ask the Toronto-based singer/songwriter, who plays Vancouver often, about some of her memories of the city, and playing shows here.

Bulat grew up in Etobicoke, Ontario, and first learned to play music on the autoharp. She released her debut album, Oh My Darling, in 2007; her most recent album, Good Advice, came out last year. In a review, the Guardian called Bulat’s latest “a rich and raw return,” and said that, “compared to her first three albums… her latest feels supercharged.”

teen angst night

It’s not a phase mom, god – you just don’t understand!

Most people in their life have jotted down a poem or two to convey the unbearable angst they go through as teenagers. With hormones raging, sometimes all you need is a pad and paper to express those feelings that your parents just didn’t understand.

But, as we grow older and move away from the pain of growing up, it’s sometimes a good idea to look back and laugh hysterically at how melodramatic life was back then. Teen Angst is a comedy show that does just that, and does it well.

Full of comedy gold, Teen Angst Night is a comedic reading series where readers can share anything (poetry, songs, letters, journals, diary entries, essays, plays, lists, etc) as long as it is super embarrassing.

No non-fans allowed; a Fleetwood Mac party aims at the ’emotionally charged’

Fleetmac Wood 03

A Fleetmac Wood show in Australia. Colm Moore photo.

Fleetmac Wood isn’t your typical tribute show.

Yes, it’s a (four-hour!) celebration of the music one of the most popular acts of all time. And yes, if you go to the Fox Cabaret (2321 Main St.) Aug 12, you are likely to hear “Rhiannon,” “Dreams,” “Go Your Own Way” and other songs by the band that has become synonymous with seventies California rock.

But the LA-based DJ act doesn’t just play the hits. It also features remixes and obscurities from a discography that goes back to the late sixties, when Mick Fleetwood and a bunch of his British blues-playing buddies formed the first incarnation of the band that would bear his name (kind of), Fleetwood Mac.
