The hike to Garibaldi Lake is a Vancouver summer classic. The long, sunny days of August are a great time to tackle this moderately difficult trail. It starts with a long climb through the forest, but the sapphire blue lake and glacier views are worth the effort.

The hike to the summit of North Vancouver’s Mount Seymour is a summer classic. It’s a moderately challenging route through the forest and over lots of tricky rocks and roots. But the sweaty climb to get there is worth it thanks to spectacular views of the city and surrounding mountains from all three peaks.

This year Vancouver’s North Shore mountains have a heavy snowpack, which means we will have to wait a bit longer to hike some of the trails to the higher peaks. But why not warm-up for the summer hiking season with a hike to Bowen Lookout at Cypress Provincial Park? It’s a short hike to a beautiful viewpoint. In early June there will be just a few snow patches that should disappear by the end of the month.

May can be a tough month for hikers. It’s nice and warm in the city, but the mountains are still covered in snow. That’s where great mid-elevation hikes like Diez Vistas come in. This trail near Buntzen Lake lets you get up high enough to enjoy some views but is low enough that you don’t have to worry about snow.

The short and easy trail to Cascade Falls in Mission is a great hike for a spring day. The waters of Cascade Creek tumble 30 meters over a sheer cliff face into a turquoise pool. Driven by snowmelt, the falls are a spectacula torrent at this time of year. Walk across the large suspension bridge for close-up views.
