The return of Princess Leia, and first-timer White Canary – at this year’s Vancouver Fan Expo

carrie-fisher-1

Carrie Fisher is back at Vancouver Fan Expo this year.

Western Canada’s biggest collection of Wookies and the Star Wars fans who love them is returning to Vancouver. From Nov. 11-13, fans of Star Trek, Star Wars, just about anything with “star” in the title, Game of Thrones, and other science fiction, fantasy and horror properties will gather – some in costume – to meet their heroes, heroines and villains. And to buy stuff.

Top-tier guests coming to the Vancouver Convention Centre (1055 Canada Place) for the event include Carrie Fisher, Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future), John Barrowman (Arrow, Doctor Who), Jewel Staite (Firefly/Serenity; Stargate Atlantis), and Kevin Smith (director, Tusk, who is hosting “an evening with”).

Vancouver benefits from being the host city for a number of locally shot superhero TV productions, so actors from shows like Arrow, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, and The Flash will be in attendance. A number of comic book artists, anime artists, video game designers, and cosplayers are also guests. There are also panels, a small press/indy pavilion, and something called “Fan Expo Speed Dating,” which is probably exactly what it sounds like (and not something The Flash engages in on his days off).

caity-lotz-1

Caity Lotz, who plays White Canary on TV, will be at this year’s Fan Expo.

As organizers note, Fan Expo is also a good place to do some early Christmas shopping. The convention is hosting hundreds of exhibitors.

meg-turney-1

Internet sensation Meg Turney will be there.

So fire up that lightsaber and visit fanexpovancouver.com for more info, including hours and ticket-ordering. Single-day passes are $30 (Friday), $40 (Saturday) and $35 (Sunday). Three-day passes are $79 (all prices in Canadian).

Update (Nov. 9): It was recently announced that Caity Lotz will not be appearing.
