Hoping to get your butt into shape before the fast approaching summer season? The annual Urban Grind is happening again this March, giving you the change to climb the Harbour Centre stairs to the iconic Vancouver Lookout observation deck.

It’s one heck of a workout and you can do it rain or shine! The Urban Grind will take place between 4:30 – 6:30pm every Tuesday in March (6, 13, 20 & 27) and will include entertainment and a free beer!

Similar to the infamous Grouse Grind (which is currently closed due to snow), the Urban Grind features steps – lots of steps! Luckily, these steps (633 in total, to be exact) are much less rugged than those you’d find on the Grouse Grind.

For an urban spin, this event has you tackling 28 flights of stairs to get to the top. Once you reach the Vancouver Lookout at the top, you’ll be treated to a 360º aerial view of Vancouver, a refreshing beer, and live DJ entertainment. And, if you haven’t built up enough of a sweat after 633 steps, you can also return to the base of the building and complete the whole thing again as many times as you can handle it!

An entry ticket to The Urban Grind costs you $5, but this ticket includes one beer, DJ entertainment at the top, unlimited ascends on the stairs, plus a $5 Harbour Centre Food Court voucher. (You deserve that burger!)

You can also make a small donation at the bottom to check your coat, bag, or umbrella before you start the climb. All donations will benefit The Kettle Society, a mental health charity.

If you’re hoping to climb the equivalent of Grouse Mountain, you’ll have to do the whole thing about five times (the Grouse Grind features ~2,830 steps!).

So, if you’re itching for an intense workout, the Urban Grind is the perfect Tuesday night activity.

Dates: Every Tuesday in March – March 6, 13, 20 & 27
Time: 4:30 – 6:30 pm
Venue: Harbour Centre lobby, 555 West Hastings Street, Vancouver
Cost: $5 (includes unlimited circuits)

Three years ago I fell down the cellar stairs. It changed my body and my life forever. I remember banging my head on the stairs and the cement wall three or four times. Wicked concussion. Whiplash, thoracic outlet syndrome, torn rotator cuffs, re-injured bad discs in my lower back, broken tailbone, broken pelvis. I still have pain and fear from the accident. I”m very, very afraid of falling but I go outside in winter, climb ladders, and do what my body will do. It”s been a long road back but I”m getting there. When I am old and ready to die my body will be well used, worn out and ready to rest. Until then, I keep moving but at a slower pace now.
