Filming in Vancouver: Sophia Bush in Surveillance, The InBetween, Virgin River, and Gabby Duran

Sophia Bush will star in a TV pilot for the spy thriller Surveillance.

After a hectic summer season, only two feature films—Antlers and Child’s Play—are shooting in town at the moment—and both are horrors, which is rather seasonally appropriate.

That said, there are lots of TV series still shooting in the city—with more on the way.

That includes a TV pilot for a spy thriller with two lead women and a new romance-drama TV series.

There’s also two TV series getting underway: one is a police procedural that taps into paranormal powers and a teenage babysitter whose young charges are actually…aliens.

Here’s our weekly rundown of what’s shooting in Vancouver’s screen scene.

Among the new projects coming to town, a CBS TV pilot for a potential new series Surveillance, directed by Patricia Riggen (The 33), will shoot from November 27 to December 14.

In this complex spy thriller, the head of communications for the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA), played by Sophia Bush (Chicago P.D.), becomes torn between whether she should protect the government’s secrets or her own.

Meanwhile, Catalina Sandino Moreno (The Affair) plays the first woman to oversee all NSA operations.

We’ll have to wait to see if this pilot is greenlit to become a full series.

Another new production coming this way is the Netflix series Virgin River, which will shoot 10 episodes for Season 1 from December 3 to March 26, 2019.

This romance drama, based on the novel series by Robyn Carr and Sherryl Woods, revolves around Melinda Monroe, who goes to work as a nurse practitioner in a California town called Virgin River.

Although she thinks it will be a place to start new and leave behind her painful past, she finds out that she needs to heal herself before she can be at home in her new location.

The cast hasn’t been announced yet and neither has a release date. So stay tuned.

Harriet Dyer in Love Child

A TV series that is underway is The InBetween, which started filming Season 1 on October 15 and will continue until February 20, 2019.

Paul Blackthorne

In this crime-drama with a supernatural twist, a mysterious woman with an ability to see and converse with the dead, played by Harriet Dyer (Love Child), reluctantly uses her abilities to assist an L.A. Police Department detective (Paul Blackthorne) and his new partner who is a former FBI agent (Justin Cornwell, who replaces Yusuf Gatewood from the TV pilot).

Together, they try to solve some of the most difficult cases to crack in their city.

The cast also includes Anne-Marie Johnson, Cindy Luna, and Chad James Buchanan.

Elsewhere in the city, another TV series launches into production today (October 22) on its first season. Gabby Duran and the Unsittables shoots Season 1 from today until April 2, 2019.

It’s based on the novel by Elise Allen and Daryle Conners.

Kylie Cantrall

In this family comedy Disney Channel TV series, Gabby Duran, played by Kylie Cantrall (Raven’s Home), gets a gig to babysit a group of extremely important children, who are actually extraterrestrials hiding out on Earth with their families but disguised as humans. Gabby is faced with attempting to hide their secret identities and protect them—as unmanageable as they are.

The cast also includes Nathan Lovejoy, Callan Farris, Maxwell Acee Donovan, Valery M. Ortiz, and Coco Christo.

The series will premiere sometime in 2019 on the Disney Channel.
