Filming in Vancouver: Chris Pratt, Hilary Swank, Laura Dern, Riverdale, and more

Greetings once again, screen believers.

Hope you all had—or are having—enjoyable holidays and may the merriment continue into the new year.

That said, this is the last instalment of this column for 2019—and of this decade. And we have a whole new year ahead of us.

And you know what that means: lots of new projects and stars will be coming this way.

In this week’s roundup of what’s going on in the local screen scene, we’ve got one mammoth of a project coming here in the near future.

Plus, we’ll run down the list of productions getting back on set after their holiday hiatuses.

Hilary Swank stars in Away

Once New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day have passed, it’s unfortunately, time to get back to work.

This week, the first batch of film and TV productions doing so after seasonal breaks will be returning to the streets of Vancouver.

KJ Apa stars in Riverdale

Getting back in the saddle this week are:

Christmas Chronicles 2 on Thursday (January 2)
Away, Season 1 on Friday (January 3)
Resident Alien, Season 1 on Friday (January 3)
Riverdale, Season 4 on Friday (January 3)
Supernatural, Season 15 on Friday (January 3)
The 100, Season 7 on Friday (January 3)
The Twilight Zone, Season 2 on Friday (January 3)
Nancy Drew, Season 1 on Saturday (January 4)

And that’s only the first half. There’ll be more to come.

Meanwhile, something big—of prehistoric proportions—is headed this way.

Yes, kids, Jurassic World 3 will shoot in Metro Vancouver from February 24 to March 6, with production based in Burnaby. Raaaawr, indeed.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker screenwriter Colin Trevorrow, who directed and wrote the first Jurassic World and wrote the screenplay for Jurassic World: Fallen World, will climb back into the director’s chair for this one.

BD Wong

Returning cast members will include Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jeff Goldblum, BD Wong, Justice Smith, Isabella Sermon, and Daniella Pineda.

Daniella Pineda

Laura Dern and Sam Neill, who were in the original Jurassic Park trilogy, will also be reprising their previous roles.

Laura Dern

Among the new faces that will be appearing in the mix will be DeWanda Wise and Mamoudou Athie.

Unfortunately, plot details haven’t been revealed for this latest installation so we’ll have to wait for details to be released about that.

But it is scheduled for release June 11, 2021.

Mamoudou Athie

That’s it for this week but we’ll have more on which productions are coming back from their winter holidays, as well as what else is filming here in Hollywood North.

So until we see you next year, best wishes to all for a happy new decade and keep having fun Vancouver-spotting on a screen near you.
