This Is Our #VancouverComeBack

Like everywhere around the world, Vancouver has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. Shops, businesses and restaurants that are the jewels of our city were forced to shut their doors. The lights dimmed on our world-famous attractions. Despite the setback, and in many ways in direct response to it, we, the people of Vancouver, did not hang our heads. Instead, we took it upon ourselves to listen carefully and abide by our health professionals’ advice to do what it took to flatten the curve. We stayed home, stayed connected, and stayed patient.

Now, as we enter into the next phase of our recovery, that perseverance is starting to pay off. While we remain cautious and vigilant with our reopening plans, Vancouver is poised to re-emerge – stronger, refreshed and more united than ever before. Locals are ready to support local, to pay tribute to the hard work of our frontline workers, and safely and confidently step back out into the city we can be so proud of.

 Cue our #VancouverComeBack.

As Vancouver begins to re-open, we’re presented with an unforeseen, but opportune moment to get reacquainted with our city, and fall in love all over again with the cuisine, shopping and natural beauty that lands Vancouver on just about every list of must-see cities in travel guides around the world. It’s a chance to try out that new restaurant you’ve been meaning to get to or visit that museum, park or even rediscover a neighbourhood you used to live in. It’s a great time to be a tourist in your own town, and check out one of our incredible hotels for a change of scenery. After being cooped up valiantly at home for so long, who among us couldn’t use a little getaway?

We’re all in this together, and supporting local businesses as they get back on their feet is a way to ensure that what makes Vancouver such a singular, spectacular place to live stays that way. The new normal may take a little getting used to, but that’s all because businesses are committed to the highest standards and protocols to keep everyone safe so that we can get back to 100% as soon as possible. One thing will never change however, even behind a mask, or from two metres away, that unsurpassed Vancouver hospitality will continue to shine through.

As Dr. Bonnie Henry says, this is our time to be kind, to be calm, and to be safe. We’d like to suggest that we throw a little fun in there too.
