Carded is a very different kind of art show that puts your competition drive to the test. Instead of your usual gallery visit that involves standing around and looking at pretty pictures, this show involves getting to know your neighbour a bit better – by bargaining and trying to collect the small art cards available for collecting and trading.
Confused? It’s a bit like Pokemon cards, without the duelling. Or art collecting, without the thousands of dollars needed. Essentially, CARDED! is a one-time-only show of art reproduced onto trading cards, making for one interesting night.
At CARDED! (presented at local art gallery, Hot Art Wet City), the work of fifty artists is presented on trading cards and made available for art lovers to collect and trade.
These 2.5″ x 3.5″ cards are displayed on the gallery wall and the audience is able to buy an assorted selection of cards in a mixed pack of five for $5. If you purchase a pack that doesn’t have your favourite card, that’s when the fun starts!
Use your best persuasion skills to get into some fast paced trading action with the people around you. Money, baking, other cards… are all on the table depending on how badly you want the card(s). The trading element for the night creates a buzzing atmosphere that is better than a stiff drink (although drinks are available as well).
CARDED! Takes place for one night only at Hot Art Wet City on Saturday, April 2 from 7pm – 11pm. The gallery is quite small, so if you want in on the action early, you should arrive as soon as the door opens.
And just like Pokemon, you’re going to want to catch em’ all!
If you’re looking for a fun and unique evening, check out Carded or one of the other interesting events that are hosted regularly by the independently-owned gallery.
