For part two of our 2016 Vancouver Folk Music Festival coverage, we’re looking at five more must-see acts during the three-day event. (See five more must-see VFMF acts here.)

Oysterband – No strangers to the folk festival circuit, Oysterband has been touring the world with their modern take on British folk music since 1978. And they’ve just gotten better with age, as can be seen in this live footage of the band performing the song “I’m Dancing As Fast As I Can.”

The Weather Station – Loyalty, the third album from The Weather Station (aka Canadian songwriter Tamara Lindeman) was one of 2015’s most irresistible folk records – Pitchfork, Uncut, The Guardian, The Globe And Mail, The Fader and other publications loved it, and the record turned up on numerous year-end lists and was nominated for the Polaris Music Prize. For a taste, watch the Weather Station video for “Floodplain.”

Faris Amine – Guitarist, singer-songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Faris Amine follows the tradition of Ali Farka Toure, Tinariwen, and other practitioners of what has been called “desert blues.” Born of a Touareg mother and an Italian father, he grew up in a musical environment and has been influenced by many musical styles, including Delta blues. In 2015 he released the acclaimed album Mississippi to Sahara. Check out a video of a live performance of the drone-y track “Niliwityan Dagh” here.

Moulettes – The Brighton, UK-based collective Moulettes deliver wondrous pop/rock/folk on their latest, aptly titled album Preternatural. The band is fronted by lead singer Hannah Miller, while the band incorporates elements of prog, pop, alt-folk and rock in songs like “Sing Unto Me.”

Twin Bandit – There are a number of local acts at this year’s folk fest, including indie-rock superstars The New Pornographers, blues act The Harpoonist and the Axe Murderer and singer/songwriter Dominique Fricot. But spare some love for Hannah Walker and Jamie Elliott, who together harmonize angelically as Twin Bandit. Check out the video for their song “Zephyr” here.
