With the average price of a wedding coming closer in cost to what you’d use as a down payment on a new condo, it’s no surprise that more and more couples are favouring cheaper, more unique options to avoid breaking the budget on a one-day event.
Enter: Love in the Square, a pop-up wedding extravaganza that will be returning to Robson Square (800 Robson Street) on Sunday, February 12 to offer free weddings for lovebirds hoping to tie the knot quickly and easily. All you need to do is show up and say “I do!”
The ultimate spontaneous adventure, Love in the Square will be taking place on Sunday, February 12 with registration beginning at 10:00 am and the wedding ceremonies taking place from 11:00 am – 6:00 pm. That is a whole lotta love coming through the square! There will also be decorations, florals, and photography crews will be on location to capture the special day and make it a little extra special.

The event happens just 2 days before Valentine’s Day (so it will be a lot easier to remember your anniversary) and couples will be married on a first-come, first-served basis. Last year, 77 couples were married during the event.
Although the function is technically free, Love in the Square is asking participants to make a minimum donation of $20 for the local charity ‘A Wish to Wed‘, which grants wedding and vow renewal wishes to those who are stricken with life threatening illnesses and medical conditions, and find themselves in a challenging financial situation.
If you do plan on getting married, you will need to bring a marriage license that is completely filled out but not signed.
If you just want to take in an afternoon of lovely couple after lovely couple celebrating their love in a big ol’ love fest of love, anyone is able to watch the event by showing up at the square. It is open to the public to watch (and perhaps weep).
