The museums, shops, and tourist stops have closed for the night, and you’ve gobbled down your delicious dinner, but you’re not quite ready to hit the hay. What is there to do when the sun has set and you have restless little ones who aren’t ready to go to bed?

If you’ve decided to spend the day perusing the shops and sampling salmon in the seaside town of Steveston, stick around for the sunset and stroll along Fisherman’s Wharf. Enjoy the breathtaking views of the marina as the sun sets behind the sailboats’ masts, and breathe in the cool Spring air.

Get away from the shops and head to the beach where you can watch the sun set behind the renowned Fisherman’s Memorial Needle, a prominent public art piece located at the south side of the beach.

Since 1898, the naval cannon has been tucked along the shores of Stanley Park, originally perched ready to warn fishermen of the Sunday closing of fishing. Now, the cannon fires off at 9pm each evening – a loud BOOM heard across the city each night. Go for a stroll along the seawall, and get up close to the icon and watch it fire, right in the heart of Stanley Park.

One of the top tourist photo spots in the city, the Steam Clock in Gastown has become a must-see attraction, surrounded by crowds of camera-happy visitors trying to capture the steam hovering above the city’s iconic monument during the day. But there’s something special about strolling past the Steam Clock at night, when the crowds have subsided and the city lights light the night sky. Stroll down the cobblestone streets, pop into the shops, and snap a photo of the Steam Clock as you stroll on by.
