Filming in Vancouver: Siren, The Order, The Baby-Sitters Club, and Godfrey

Siren

The sun’s shining and you probably want to get outside and splash around in the ocean. So we’ll try and make this quick.

In this week’s roundup of what’s happening in Vancouver’s screen scene, there are a few projects getting underway.

One is a feature film with—curiously enough—very limited details available about it.

Another is a TV series about a group of babysitters who launch a business of their own.

Yet another is a horror drama involving a secret society that practices the dark arts to fight supernatural creatures.

And in the realm of unusual beings, there’s a mystery-thriller series about mysterious mermaids that’s already gotten underway.

So if you’re ready to dive in, here’s a peek at what’s filming this week in the city.

Cleopatra Coleman

First up, Godfrey begins filming today (August 6) and will continue until September 9.

Details about the storyline aren’t available but this feature film is directed by Ken Mok (America’s Next Top Model executive producer).

Iliza Shlesinger

Meanwhile, the cast includes Cleopatra Coleman, Iliza Shlesinger, Nick Thune, Trezzo Mahoro, and Nykeem Provo.

Nykeem Provo

Also starting today is Season 1 of the Netflix TV series The Baby-Sitters Club, which will shoot 10 episodes until October 15.

The new version of author Ann M. Martin’s young-adult book series (which were published from 1986 to 2000) will follow the adventures of five friends in Stoneybrook, Connecticut, who launch a babysitting service.

Alicia Silverstone

The actors playing the lead roles of the five female friends haven’t been announced yet but the cast will include Alicia Silverstone (Clueless) as the mother of Kristy Thomas and Mark Feuerstein will play her love interest.

Mark Feuerstein

Previously a TV series was released in 1990 and a feature film was made in 1995.

A release date hasn’t been announced yet so stay tuned.

The Order

Another TV series that gets underway today is The Order, which is shooting 10 episodes for Season 2 until November 7.

Jake Manley

In this supernatural horror drama series, college student Jack Morton (Jake Manley) sets out to avenge his mother’s death by joining a secret society called the Hermetic Order of the Blue Rose and discovers a world in which practitioners of dark magic are waging a war against werewolves.

Matt Frewer

After events in Season 1, it remains to be seen if characters played by Matt Frewer and Max Martini will return for this new season or not.

Presumably the cast will also include Sarah Grey and Sam Trammell.

Sarah Grey

A season premiere date hasn’t been announced yet.

Siren

The mystery-thriller Siren began Season 3 on August 1 and will film until December 16.

Eline Powell

Set in the town of Bristol Cove on the Washington coast, things turned upside down when a mysterious woman (Eline Powell), who is a mermaid, comes ashore looking for her sister, who was captured by fishermen.

Alex Roe

Two marine biologists (Alex Roe and Fola Evans-Akingbola) work together to understand what she wants.

But in Season 2, the future of the mermaids became uncertain after an attack on an oil rig. We’ll have to wait to see what lies ahead in Season 3 (the premiere date hasn’t been announced yet).

The cast also includes Ian Verdun and Rena Owen.

And speaking of the seaside, hope you all get a chance to break away from your screens to get outside and enjoy the beaches in this summertime weather.

That said, don’t forget to check in on us again when you’re done frolicking about outside because we’ll have more on what else is filming in Vancouver in our installations to come.
