The Yeast Van Brewery District Cooperative is comprised of various breweries in East Vancouver. This Saturday the organization is holding its first-ever block party.

The Yeast Van Block Party takes place Aug. 17 from 2-8 p.m. in the parking lot at Container Brewing at 1216 Franklin Street. Tickets are now on sale online, with a limited number available the day of the event. Ticket includes two drink tickets. After that, all drink tickets will cost $5 for a 12-oz glass of beer. Wait, you say. Is there food? Is there a DJ (hope against hope). And what is Container Brewing? Find out more after the jump.

Yes, there is food (for meat-eaters, anyway): Big Day BBQ will be on-site.

Yes, there is a DJ (Dr Alex, who’ll be spinning vinyl).

Breweries included: Bomber Brewing, Luppolo, East Van, Off The Rail, Callister, Container, Strathcona, Hastings Mill, Postmark, Coal Harbour, Storm, Parallel 49, Odd Society Spirits, Resurrection Spirits, Andina, Powell, Strange Fellows, and Superflux.

Finally, Container Brewing is the latest addition to the East Vancouver craft beer family. So far Container has 12 beers registered in a broad range of styles. According to the website, “All of our beers will be made with beer ingredients and made to style… with a west coast spin of dry hopping and local ingredients. Think: not a beer that you’d only be able to have one of. That’s kind of our brand.” Brewmaster Tim Juul brewed at Fort Hill Brewery in Massachusetts.

The brewery is owned by Dan Webster and Terry Brown, who previously sold software and made bicycles (respectively) according to Scout Magazine. Also according to Scout, the brewery space is “4,440 sqft in total, which breaks down to 2,800 for production/storage and the rest to a 67 seat lounge spread out on two levels.”

Also coming up this month is Caskapalooza (Aug. 27 at Craft Beer Market, 85 W. 1st Ave). Local breweries will contribute over 30 unique casks. Partial proceeds will be donated to the YMCA Strong Kids campaign, a charity that helps kids, youth, adults and seniors get access to proven YMCA community programs improving health, reducing social isolation and inspiring hope. Event tickets are $25 and include 12 sample beer tokens.
