Filming in Vancouver: The Haunting of Bly Manor, Woke, and Resident Alien

Sasheer Zamata will star in Woke.

’Tis the season to be scared.

And things are getting appropriately eerie in Vancouver’s screen scene as we approach All Hallow’s Eve.

A horror anthology series get back on its creepy set, with a whole new storyline—but with some familiar faces.

But beyond thrills and chills, there’s also laughter in the upcoming mix.

For instance, an upcoming comedy that takes an animated look at how a cartoonist deals with being woke.

And a dark comedy follows an alien as he integrates himself into human life.

Victoria Pedretti

First up, the Netflix supernatural horror anthology series The Haunting of Hill House starts shooting Season 2 today (September 30) and will continue filming until February 25, 2020.

While the first season was based upon a 1959 gothic novel of the same name by U.S. author Shirley Jackson, the second season will be entitled The Haunting of Bly Manor and will be based upon the 1898 horror novella The Turn of the Screw by American-British author Henry James.

Oliver Jackson-Cohen

In James’ novella, a governess takes care of two unusual children at a remote estate that she begins to believe is haunted.

The new season will premiere in 2020.

Several cast members from the first season will return as new characters in Season 2, including Victoria Pedretti, Henry Thomas, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Catherine Parker, and Kate Siegel.

Rahul Kohli

New cast members will include T’nia Miller, Amelia Eve, Rahul Kohli, Benjamin Ainsworth, and Amelie Smith.

T’nia Miller

Later on this year, two television pilots that shot in Vancouver earlier this year that have been given the greenlight to become full-fledged series will start shooting their first seasons.

Lamorne Morris

Woke, which is a mix of live-action and animation, will shoot Season 1 from November 4 to December 19.

The pilot shot earlier this year from January 29 to February 6.

Inspired by the life of cartoonist Keith Knight, this comedy series follows San Francisco cartoonist Keef Knight, played by Lamorne Morris (New Girl), who is about to break into mainstream success when an incident with police changes everything as animated objects invade his everyday life.

Lara Goldie

The cast includes Sasheer Zamata, Brandi Alexander, Lara Goldie, and Blake Anderson.

We’ll have to wait and see what date this series will be premiere on Hulu.

Alan Tudyk

Following that, Resident Alien will shoot Season 1 from November 25 to March 24.

This Syfy series is based on the comic book series by Dark Horse.

A year ago, the pilot shot in town back in October 2018 and was approved to go to series in February.

It’s a dark comedy that follows an alien who crash-lands on Earth. After the alien, played by Alan Tudyk (Doom Patrol), assumes the identity of a smalltown doctor in Colorado, he begins to question his secret mission on Earth and wonders if humans are worth saving or not.

Alice Wetterlund

The cast will include Corey Reynolds, Sara Tomko, Alice Wetterlund, and Levi Fiehler.

The season premiere date hasn’t been announced yet so stay tuned.
