Filming in Vancouver: Brand New Cherry Flavor, Resident Alien, and The Last Victim

Ali Larter

We may be coming close to the end of the year and the holiday season, which may mean a lot of productions are either going to be calling it a wrap or going on hiatus soon.

But in the never-ending flow of Vancouver’s screen scene, a couple of new shows are actually starting up this week.

In fact, two new series—a supernatural horror-revenge thriller set in 1990s Los Angeles and a sci-fi mystery about an alien pretending to be a human—are just getting started.

Meanwhile, a number of Hollywood and Canadian stars are finishing up a feature thriller elsewhere in B.C.

Here’s a quick look at the comings and goings of screen productions around town and the province.

Rosa Salazar

To start things off, a brand new TV series hits the streets of Vancouver.

Brand New Cherry Flavor starts shooting eight episodes of Season 1 today (November 25) and will run until March 2.

This horror-thriller revenge series is based on the cult horror novel by Todd Grimson.

Catherine Keener

Rosa Salazar (Alita: Battle Angel) stars as an aspiring film director in Los Angeles in 1990 who sets out upon a mission of revenge that leads her into the realm of the supernatural.

Manny Jacinto

A premiere date for the series hasn’t been announced yet so stay tuned.

Alan Tudyk

Meanwhile, another TV series also gets going today.

The Syfy TV series Resident Alien begins shooting Season 1 today (November 25) and will continue until March 24.

The series shot its pilot back in October 2018 and was greenlit in February to become a full series.

Sara Tomko

This sci-fi TV series, based on a Dark Horse comic, follows an alien, played by Alan Tudyk (Doom Patrol), who crash lands on Earth. After he assumes the identity of a smalltown doctor on Colorado, he integrates himself into human society.

But as he continues on his secret mission and with government agents on his tail, he begins to wonder whether or not humankind is worth saving.

Corey Reynolds

Among the cast are also Sara Tomko, Corey Reynolds, Alice Wetterlund, and Levi Fiehler.

The premiere date is yet to be announced.

Ali Larter

Beyond the Lower Mainland, Hollywood and Canadian stars have been busy this month shooting a feature film in the B.C. Interior.

The Last Victim began filming on November 4, with production based in Kelowna and with shoots throughout the Okanagan, and will call it a wrap on Thursday (November 28).

Ralph Ineson

In this thriller directed by Naveen Chathapuram, Ali Larter (The Rookie) stars as an anthropologist who becomes trapped in the New Mexico wilderness.

As she flees a group of outcasts led by a misguided idealist (Ralph Ineson), a smalltown sheriff (Ron Perlman) struggles to solve the mystery of what has happened.
